The Oakley Farmers Market internship position is an important role in the function of the market.  Responsibilities include the management of the market and compiling demographic data to further enhance our understanding of the needs and wants of our customers, farmers, and community at large.  This position is 6 hours per week of scheduled work with additional opportunities for research and data collection.  Internships are currently unpaid positions.

Purpose of Internship:

This position will offer hands-on experience in agricultural marketing as well as community led efforts in addressing local issues of food security.  The internship provides interaction with local vendors and offers an opportunity to interact with solutions being offered in a USDA identified food dessert.


Applicants must:

  • Have both written and oral proficiency of English.

  • Possess a positive customer service attitude.

  • Be capable of lifting 50 lbs.

  • Be capable of working outside for 4-6 hours.

  • Have reliable transportation to and from the Oakley Farmers Market.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Market Set Up

  • Set up info tent and children’s tent

  • Set up any specific weekly activities or demos

  • Create vendor map and help direct vendors to assigned spaces

  • Collect vendor donations for musicians

Marketing & Promotion

  • Collect customer sign-ups for newsletter and volunteering.

  • Manage vendor and customer feedback forms.

  • Assist in supervising children’s activities and demos.

  • Occasional photography and videography for market promotion.

  • Preparation of written information for press releases and website information.

Market Breakdown

  • Take down info tent and children’s tent

  • Remove market signs from road

  • Inspect property for any damage, lost items or messes


  • Compile trends on customer demographics and shopping habits.

  • Research best management practices for recruiting customers in low-income/mixed-income environments.

  • Identify possible partnerships and sponsorships.

  • Prepare information on market initiatives for review by the OFM Board of Directors.
