With summer festivities winding down and school starting up for our kids, this time of year has many of us reinventing ourselves and our routines. So while you’re running around for back to school errands, make sure to come by and stock up on the gorgeous array of fruits and vegetables that can fill your kids’ lunch boxes! And with this cooler weather, it makes a visit to your local market that much better. Enjoy music from Oakley’s own Chris Farmer and bring the little ones down for children’s story time from the Oakley Library at 5pm every Thursday in August!
Get ready for canning! Fiddlesticks Farm is up to their ears in tomatoes of all kinds. Take advantage of their canning special this week: 20lb boxes of mixed variety tomatoes for only $20! At $1/lb for local, organic tomaotes, that is a great deal. Dress up those tomatoes with hot pepper varieties, sweet pimento peppers, okra and seven different eggplant varieties from Angel Ridge Farm, and check out her new crop of edamame too! Gladheart Farm is offering a limited quantity of the sweet, richly colored burgundy okra, as well as Italian Bel Conte sweet peppers, which are great for stuffing. Natalie’s Naturals will have guinea and duck eggs again this week, as well as richly flavored chanterelle mushrooms.
Congratulations to Looking Glass Creamery for their recognition at the American Cheese Society’s 2012 Competition! Their Ellington Goat Cheese won 2nd place in the Goat’s Milk Open Category Class. If you haven’t tried it yet, what are you waiting for?
Visit Jenni Gems this week and check out her new additions of beaded and copper jewelry. Finally Farm has great big aloe plants and colorful coleus at great prices. And it’s never too early to start planning for Thanksgiving. Stop by Which Came First Farm to put in your order for Thanksgiving turkeys.
We’ll have fresh squeezed, organic lemonade, hand dipped dark chocolate fruits and massage for you this week too!
