Grand Opening Tomorrow! Ribbon cutting with Mayor Bellamy!

Tomorrow is our Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony with the mayor! There will be a ton of great activities and entertainment all day, as well as a bunch of great local food and crafts from all our amazing vendors. The market will be from 2pm to 6pm at the Oakley United Methodist Church. If you have any trouble finding us, check out our new Find Us page, that has the address as well as a map of the location. The ribbon cutting will be at 3pm with Mayor Bellamy in attendance.

Not only is Gladheart Farms bringing their usual bountiful crop of vegetables, they’re bringing some sweet baby goats and they’re bringing a band! Gladheart Farms and Friends will be playing Irish-Celtic mountain music for the enjoyment of patrons and vendors alike! There will be tractors and a planting activity for the children that they can take home! A big thank you to Gladheart farms for helping our new market in so many ways, not least of which is providing all this for our grand opening!

Angel Ridge farms will provide angora wool spinning demonstrations. They usually bring a few of the angora rabbits along, too! They were certainly cute last week! There will also be face-painting, a balloon artist, and raffling off prizes!

Be sure and join us tomorrow for all the festivities. In the meantime, like us on facebook, follow us on twitter, and tell your friends there is a brand new farmers market in east Asheville, right in your neighborhood!

If you or your business is interested in sponsoring the market to show your support of community, local food, and local farmers, download the sponsorship form on our forms page, and contact us! Thanks so much to all our vendors, volunteers, and community members! It’s going to be a great event!

Soft Opening Report

It was a beautiful day for a farmers market yesterday! If you didn’t make it, you missed out on the start of something great! We’ve started a YouTube channel, and our first video will give you an idea of what our market is all about. It was great to visit with our amazing vendors and sample some great products. Sure, if you want leafy greens we’ve got you covered, but our market also has local chicken and eggs, goat cheese, artisan breads, pottery, nuts, organic yarn, music, activities for the kids and much more!

A late, but very welcome addition to our day vendors is Asheville’s own Tupelo Honey! They brought granola, sauces and dressings, jams, pickles, chow-chow and spiced pecans, and they are just getting started! We’d also like to welcome Natalie’s Naturals as our newest member vendor! They started as a day vendor and decided Oakley Farmers Market has a good thing going. Thanks for your support!

Thanks again to all the volunteers, vendors, and residents for making such a great beginning to what we hope to be a community institution for years to come!

Want to make the market even better? Become a market sponsor and show the community that supporting local food, farmers, and neighborhoods is important to you!

Soft Opening this Thursday! Sponsors needed!

Our first market day will be this Thursday, May 24th. We couldn’t be more excited! Thanks to the vendors and community members for supporting our efforts to bring fresh, local food and products to our neighborhood! In order to make this the best market possible, we are seeking sponsors for the market to help fund things like a kids area and musical entertainment. This is a great way to show you support the farmers market and the community effort to make this market thrive! Download our sponsor form here, print it, and either bring it with you to the market on Thursday, or mail it to the address on the form. For  $10 we’ll list you on our website as a supporter. For $75 you can sponsor a market day and provide information about your business at our information booth. For $150 your business can sponsor 3 market days! We’ll post about your business on our facebook, twitter, and blog as the market sponsor for those weeks. With your help, we can make Oakley Farmers Market one of the best in the region!
